Since 1993, Kaslo Sourdough produces a variety of sourdough breads using a traditional fermentation technique. Their Pumpernickle: This bread is also called Whole Grain Rye Bread, with its whole rye kernels and flax seeds. This loaf is a heavy rye bread, whose consistency resembles that of Russian peasant bread. In Europe, this type of bread is customarily steamed, rather than baked in closed tin pans. We, however, prefer to bake it, following the Russian tradition of releasing the potent rye aroma to its fullest.
